Reverse Phone Lookup 69999

This popped up on my cell phone "Joke 4 credits/mo, get 20 credits/mo, text HELP to 69999, T&C's, flycell.com, Quit? txt STOP, 9.99/mo, other rates may apply," followed by a pin number.  Flycell.com appears to be a place to get ring tones, etc. for a cell phone.  I don't appreciate getting this junk on my cell phone, but I'm not going to text back to STOP.  Would I be charged?  Does it let them know they reached a good number?  According to Google, they target young females/teens.  Well, that ain't me, I'm pushing 70.  Dialing *77 blocks marketing calls, but it also blocks someone trying to use a calling card, like people traveling.  Can turn the block on (*77) and off (*87).  Don't know if it works on cell phones, just landlines.

yea i got texts from this number and started being charged $10 a month. you need to text stop to 69999. They will actually stop the service and not charge you anymore. I just stopped it yesterday.

I have managed to find a way of stopping these texts from flycell, a guy a Orange told me and it has worked for me. I was getting messages weekly or sometimes more often costing over £1 each time.

Anyway you could try typing in capitals, with a space inbetween - STOP NOW

Then again in capitals with a space - STOP ALL

This worked for me, I havent had a text through for over 7 weeks now, I hope this works

Something else he said is that apparently someone else can subscribe into this service and then as you know its really difficult to get out. So basically it could be that some joker did this to you. Nice!!!

The text are meant to annoy you and cost you money. You can be signed up for the service without knowing it. The messages can also be selected by senders and are not always random. If the messages are coming from flycell than STOP might work. If the text are coming from an annonymous text service through a subsidiary of flycell STOP should work unless your cyberprankster is spaming your phone over and over again. Annonymous text services are also used by cell phone stalkers to harass their victims because of the ability to send annonymous messages. Be careful of spoof text messages containg links to hidden spyware that is activated when a recipient replys to a message.

I was getting these messages and charges. So I texted STOP ALL to them as a reply. I did just as Mystery said. They replied. "You have successfully opted out of the Flycell ClubPack Unlmtd. Service is cancelled. You will not recieve more msgs or charges from us. Visit us @ flycell.com"

So if that doesn't fix it I don't know what else will. So I am just going to wait and see, something comes up I will return to this page.

I am so glad this is on here, because I just bought my phone yesterday, and bought a 20 dollar calling card along with it. I checked my balance this morning to make sure it had processed, and I had 20 dollars. About an hour ago I recieved a text message from '69999' that had a 'laughaholics' joke. I figured someone had entered my number when signing up for this, which made me mad. I knew I would probably be charged for this, so I checked my balance. $4.91 is how much is left on my phone. I wanted to make sure I wasnt being charged for my texting (as I am suppose to have unlimited texting) so I sent a couple texts and checked my balance again. It was the same, so I am pretty sure it is FlyCell who charged me. I texted them to 'stop', and they said I succesfully opted out... Hopefully. It bothers me that I just spent 16 dollars on nothing. The targeting teens might be true, as I am 14, and I gave out my age when I got my phone hooked up to Sasktel. What should I do??

to stop 69999 from texting you, you have to text "Stop" to them (no italics) and they will send u a message saying they will not be sending you any more messages. hope this helps

I have never signed up for Laughaholic and have text them to stop texting me but they keep coming.
I hate them and wish they would stop, it's getting expensive.

Thanks that worked. I didn't know how they had gotten my number but didn't need another charge to my phone. That helped me out a bunch. It was cancelled after I sent the text to them.

I started getting messages two weeks ago, and immediately called Verizon, to find out what was going on. They said that they could block it, but charges appeared on my bill. Through this website, I found that I should try to Text STOP to 69999. I tried but they have not responded. I consider this Verizon's fault for letting bogus charges on, in the first place, and then not helping me to get it adjudicated. After having been a loyal Verizon fan for years (I have had their service as AirTouch prior to the formation of Verizon) I'm now a bit disgusted. They are the "Toyota" of cell companies.

Update: after a bunch of wrangling with Verizon, they reverse the charge for the Premium text, and have put a block. This did put a stop to the annoying messages and has adjudicated the charge.

In exploring this issue more, there is a process that the carriers assume happens, called "double opt-in," seemingly to make sure you really-really want the texts and the charges. However, it is possible to double opt-in" without having the phone itself (like by responding to a "opt-in" text). This means that someone could opt you in as a prank, completely without your knowledge.

A further thing I learned is that the carriers leave the possibility to receive these premium texts on, initially, as they feel there are customers who generally want to receive a "Joke of the day" or "Quirky British Trivia" (or whatever else the vendors can conceive of) and are also willing to pay the 9.99 or 19.99 per month for the entertainment. You can ask to have Premium Txt Messaging block on all your phones, thus protecting you from the charges and unwanted messages. You have to ask for the blcok--it is not automatically blocked.

In my case, Verizon ate the fee, and placed the block, so as the Bard says, "alls well that ends well".
It was a learning experience.
Good luck to the rest of you in getting your spam and unwanted charges off.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
