This is in fact the U.S. Census Bureau calling, they called the other day and everything is on the up and up no kind of questions will be asked that you would have to be concerned about, just very basic info. What they are doing is calling back some households that meet a certian criteria, that may cause incorrect data to be collected.

This Is NOT true it is NOT the US CENSUS To verify who you're talking to you need to ask for their Census ID number and their Local Census Office Do not give them information if they can not provide that
I got calls many times from this number. He said the survey is mandatory and was going to ask personal information. I asked him to give me his name and badge number so I can verify. He also left this 866-85-2010. I called US census bureau (phone number got from website). The officer answered that there isn't any employee with that badge number. This 866-number also doesn't belong to US census bureau!
The party calling from this number left a message on my answering machine at 9:00 p.m. on a Saturday - claiming to be from the census bureau. They also left a case number, requesting a call back. The census is intrusive enough without attempting to contact people at this time of night - especially on a weekend. I have no idea why I would have a case number - since I haven't moved in almost thirty years - and my responses were in no way unusual. Frankly, I resent this call and the fact that it ruined my evening.
