When I rang back the auto response was that it is not a working number
Received a call from this number @ 5:39 pm on 2-16-10. Computer voice stating it was a security call, said my ATM card had been fraudulently used and deactivated. I needed to press 1 to reactivate. NOTICE: I do not have an ATM card of any kind, the number called my cell number which I never use as I always use my land line for business purposes. I only answered because I have relatives in the Lone Star state. OBVIOUSLY this is a scam and ANY OPTION you push may well commit your telephone to long distance charges or other fraudulent actions. Do not push any number for any options offered. SIMPLY HANG UP. CALLING NUMBER is DEFINETALY a SCAM.
received a call around 12:30 stating that my atm card had been compromised. It asked me to press 1 to reactivate and option 2 was to end the call. I hit 2 as I there was no option to be transferred to an attendant (made me suspicious) and when I attempted to call back it was not a working number. It is a little nerve racking that someone has accessed my private cell number in order to make this phone call. What is the cellular service that everyone is being contacted on? I'm with Verizon and wondering if there is a correlation between these calls and a possible leak of private numbers.
Received a call from this number at 11:51PM EST on 16FEB10. I did not answer the phone. This is my first call from this number and it was to my cell number. I am also a Verizon customer (in Atlanta).
Received a call from 817-688-7853 @ 1:36am on Feb. 17th. Same as reported above, Computer voice stating it was a security call, said my ATM card had been fraudulently used and deactivated. I hung up. I am with Verizon in the Atalanta area also.
got call 10 minutes ago. missed the call, tried to call back. auto-response said it is not a valid number?

just got a call 7:15 pm it was automated and said the 'bank's name' i deal with and then told me to that it was a security call because someone tried to access my 'atm' card.......(and i never use it) and to press '1' if i want to stop it and then asked me for my 16 digits account number...........LOL LOL LOL LOL WTF? are you kidding me? OMG!!! someone needs to stop this crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn i was in the middle of a good movie too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got an automated call from 8176887853, based on the area code of the caller, the call appeared to be emanating from the Ft. Worth, TX area. Recorded voice said my VISA Debit card had been deactivated and to reactivate press 1 which resulted in further recrorded instructions about reactivation. I immediately hung up. I'm not on Verizon cell service.. Don't know how this caller got my cell phone number. A call to my bank revealed no debit card problem. This is clearly a fraud and will be reported to the federal and State of Texas authorities. These nuts are dangerous and need to be shut down immediately.
Here's what to do when you get the call.
Just hang up.
Then call ATT at 800-331-0500 during regular business hours and when prompted to enter your wireless phone number enter 817-688-7853 (assuming this is the cell number that called you). Speak to a customer representative and let them know that the owner of this cell phone account is using their services fraudulently, I believe phishing is illegal, and you just wanted to let them know.
PLEASE, do not abuse the customer service help, thank you. They are just like you and I, so be kind.
If you can't wait, you can contact ATT at their 24/7 technical support call center. Use the same 817 cell phone number when prompted and speak to their customer service.
Repeat, BE KIND! If you're steamed, vent appropriately. The pathetic excuse behind this is not the same person on the phone with you - unless you're a better sleuth than I am.
This effort is simply to EMPOWER you if you wish to take appropriate action, in this case being a bit-o-thorn in the call logs of ATT (in Fort Worth Texas) so they hurry and close this pathetic down.
Got a call from this number saying that a card from some credit union (I don't belong to any CUs) was deactivated due to a breach. Asked for card number, exp dat, security code & pin number. This has to be a SCAM!!!! If you suspect anything call you bank yourself using the info on your card. NEVER enter personal info from a cold call.
